Got a to-go bar order? Well, it might be time to reconsider.
Because seasoned bartenders and mixologists from across the US have discovered the 10 drinks you should never order at a crowded bar.
Mixologist experts told Business Insider about the mixes that fear customer requests, and the reasons why.
The banned list includes some firm favorites – so how does your type compare?
First, Jamie Robinson — a former bartender and current assistant food and beverage manager at the Outrigger Reef Waikiki Beach Resort — urged patrons to steer clear of a Long Island iced tea.
She told the media it was a “big no-no, especially in a busy bar,” as it involves too many ingredients that make for a questionable concoction.
“You’ll probably only order one or two, unless you plan to end up on the floor at some point during the evening,” Jamie said.
Next on her list of drinks to avoid were mojitos which the expert described as ‘a labor of love to say the least’.
She said that to make “a proper mojito it must contain hand-mixed lime and mint.”
White Russians also appeared in Jamie’s drinks to cap off a busy night due to the heavy cream required.
“Save your bartender the time to go check to see if there’s some in your back, and save your stomach from mixing dairy with whatever else you might be inclined to drink that night,” she said.
Elsewhere, executive bartender Zulay Duran, who works at Taste My Aruba, advised customers not to consume spicy margaritas.
“This is a specialty drink that requires careful execution, which is not feasible for most bartenders on a busy night,” she said, urging people to opt for a simple glass of wine instead.
Bar manager Aliz Meszasi, who works at The Fed at The Langham in Boston, also urged customers to avoid ordering a Bloody Mary on a night out – insisting it is only a breakfast drink.
Anything containing egg whites – such as a black gin – is also not suitable to order during busy periods, according to head bartender at The Rum House, Nick Jackson.
He said it’s ‘very labor intensive’ and requires a few minutes of preparation.
Additionally, Zach Pace, a beverage expert at Ten Rooms, said pina coladas are best reserved for the beach.
“Please don’t make the bartender turn on a blender in the middle of a crazy service,” he pleaded.
Many experts agreed that Irish coffees and espresso martinis should also be avoided – telling potential customers to get their caffeine fix from a coffee shop.
Sunshine Foss, founder and CEO of the Happy Cork liquor store, urged customers to avoid layered shots that require multiple drinks.
“Bartenders are already under pressure to serve drinks quickly, but ordering tiered pots just doesn’t make sense to anyone,” she said.
Last but not least, mixologist Joshua Lucas, of Kiki’s in California, recommends bar patrons not to order custom drinks.
He comically said: ‘Be specific, but not a poet.’
